·       Location: Hybrid - HQ, Dunfermline and home (with regular travel across Scotland)

What does a Digital & Social Media Officer do?

Our Digital & Social Media Officer is the Scottish SPCA’s voice and presence online, bringing our stories to life every day, growing our audiences and turning attention into support for Scotland’s animals.

You’ll manage our social media channels, create engaging digital content and help deliver integrated campaigns across web, email and paid media.

For a digital-first strategy, this is a busy, creative and rewarding role with the opportunity to share the stories of the animals we rescue, protect and care for with hundreds of thousands of people – and use that reach to inspire action.

Overview of main duties and responsibilities

Social Media

• Manage the charity's social media channels.
• Plan and publish engaging, on-brand content.
• Grow audiences and engagement using data and insight.
• Manage and respond to the community warmly and promptly, in line with the Brand tone of voice.
• Monitor social conversation and flag issues or opportunities quickly.
• Produce regular reporting on metrics across web and social channels to optimise reach and conversion.

Digital Content & Campaigns

• Create digital content, including images, short video and copy, that brings our work to life.
• Support web content updates and email marketing as part of integrated campaigns and monitor results.
• Help deliver and monitor paid social and digital advertising.

Insight

• Track digital performance across channels and share insight to improve results.
• Use audience data and performance information to help shape and optimise future digital activity.

Team Working

• Work collaboratively across the Marketing & Communications team to deliver engaging, integrated campaigns.
• Support colleagues with digital and social content to ensure our communications are consistent, creative and on brand.
• This is a small, focused and efficient team, where everyone plays an important role, works collaboratively and takes ownership of delivering high-quality digital and social media activity.

Education & Qualifications

Essential

• Educated to a good standard, or with equivalent experience.

Desirable

• Digital marketing or communications qualification.

Experience & Job Knowledge

Essential

• Experience of managing social media channels for an organisation or cause.
• Experience of creating digital content, including images and short video.

Desirable

• Experience of paid social, email marketing or website content management.
• Experience with analytics tools.

Job Related Skills / Competencies

Essential

• Strong social-media and content-creation skills.
• Good writing with a feel for tone and audience.
• Organised, able to juggle several channels and deadlines.

Desirable

• Skills in photography, video editing or design tools.

Additional Relevant Criteria

• A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work travel.
• An understanding of the animal welfare, charity or not-for-profit sector.
